Below is an example of our work:

Contemporary Resort Hotel, Disney World, Orlando, FL

The project was one year behind schedule and seriously over budget when Paul Gogulski was hired to oversee design and construction of Disney’s award winning Contemporary Resort Hotel. Disney planned five (5) hotels for concurrent opening at Disney World in  Orlando, Florida, .but  only two were authorized for construction due to delays in design and insufficient funds.  As one part of the solution, United States Steel Corporation agreed to finance and build the two hotels with the provision that the structural design would be changed from concrete to steel. Disney hired a select team from General Electric’s Real Estate and Construction Operation to administer the contracts and oversee the hotels. Mr. Gogulski was a key member of that team.

The Contemporary Resort Hotel was Disney’s show piece, but became a nightmare as delays continued to prevent starting in the field. As an example, the monorail was originally intended to connect to an outside platform, but when Disney remarked “Wouldn’t it be great to run the monorail inside instead of outside” the architects immediately stated  “no problem” and enthusiastically produced drawings which showed the monorail entering at the 5th floor level, one story above the main concourse. What they didn’t state was the fact that the structure supporting the monorail must be completely independent from the hotel’s structural system.  This required major revisions to footings, columns and platforms, as well as two “air doors” with state of art controls to allow the air conditioning to work with openings at both ends of the hotel.

This was an unusually complicated project, with over 1,000 hotel units manufactured off site and set in place on inclined cables.  Paul played a key role in reducing cost and completing the project on schedule. Most of the technical problems were  resolved when Mr. Gogulski insisting that the architect, Welton Becket, commit two of their key design personnel on site full time,  In addition, the work was expedited to include two 12 hour shifts, seven days/week among 1200 craft workers and subcontractors. Coordination meetings were held before 8:00AM and after 5:00PM in order to avoid loss of production.
